One Unique Thing

This isn’t really a setting post so much as a thought experiment. If you had to name one absolutely unique thing about your character, what would it be?
Some seem obvious like Aladraian’s apprenticeship to The Psiontist, but it could be argued that’s merely a manifestation of his icon relationship, not a unique thing about him specifically.
Obviously if you haven’t thought of one feel free to make it up. While it can be tied to an existing aspect of your character (i.e. Zasahl’s high intimidate is the result of people literally seeing the furious visage of Bahamut through his eyes) it could be totally unrelated. Just nothing with a combat bonus, OK?

If they don’t contradict anything I might let you treat them as canon. If you can come up with an in-game reason to have it then even better (i.e. contact with Grayson’s staff awakened your latent psionic ability and now you can wield a glowy, telekinetic version of your favored item that behaves just like the real thing).

EDIT: Also is it more convenient to run the game at the usual time (plus an hour for American Daylight Savings)? So Saturday for the majority of you? Because Ranneko can’t make it Friday.

Well, I’m not the first apprentice, now am I? So not unique! Besides, you already said that I need to come up with something else now… Hmm.

How about a manifestation of my psionic ability and natural spatial awareness as an ability to project, say, a map into a willing mind temporarily?

That sounds like something most psions could do with telepathy. What if your powers instead allowed you a vision of the historical layout of an area?

Hmm. What exactly do you mean by ‘historical layout’? Like how it used to be in the past? So putting my psionic abilities and knowledge of history together? That could work.

As in, seeing visions of the distant past. So you might be able to see the area as it was at this point in the previous Age.

Hmm. That could be interesting. Now I just have to remember I can do that 😛

            • November 15, 2012 at 1:38 pm

Why would you be able to do that? I’m not necessarily giving out free powers here.

              • November 15, 2012 at 2:53 pm

Awwwww. Let’s see. Well, there’s several options. One, I make some kind of contact with someone that inhabited the area back then, like the spirits here on Ferrosa. Or I could be able to be super-archaeologist, getting it from subtle clues in the environment.

Or I could think of something else. I’ll come up with something.

                • November 15, 2012 at 9:26 pm

Contacting someone who lived back then isn’t a quality unique to you. Seeing a scenario based on environmental cues isn’t really getting visions so much as having an overactive imagination.

My unique thing is being always correct, obviously.

That’s about as accurate as me telling you I never lie.

Good to know we can trust you.

Except that I never told you that.

So Dan and I spent a fair amount of time discussing a possible unique thing, and we ended up deciding that Aladraian actually wasn’t born with psionic abilities, but was given them somehow (not through something he did) as recognition of his potential, especially his ability to intuitively conceptualize and understand behaviors, both physical and social/personal. (Yes, we do know who did it. Aladraian doesn’t, and I’m not going to tell you but Dan can if he wants).

That understanding (and maybe a little bit of how he got my power) contributes to the neat little gimmick that sometimes when he’s thinking intently about some physical phenomena, he unconsciously begins to create a physical representation of what he’s thinking about using small particles from his surroundings (dirt, sand, dust, etc.). So imagine him explaining a solar system and seeing small amounts of dirt flowing off the ground and making a faint, hazy representation of the solar system. It’s very faint now, barely visible when he’s concentrating intently, but as he grows more powerful (levels up), it’ll become more apparent and also more controllable.

P.S. Saturday should be fine for me.
